Poker is popular all over the world. It combines principles of card games known hundreds of years ago in Europe and probably long before that in the Orient, but in its present form it is distinctly of American origin. There are many variations of Poker, but they differ mostly in details and all follow the same basic principles. You will find no problems if you know and understand the main principles of the game. Poker is a game of betting as to which player holds the best hand. In most poker variations the combination of five highest-ranking cards form a winning hand, but in some poker games the strongest hands are different. In High/Low poker the pot can be split by two players. The player who has the strongest hand and the player, who has the weakest hand are the winners. The bets made by the players are added to the pot, which is situated in the center of the table. If you don’t want to meet the highest bet by some other player you can’t compete for the pot. Because of this rule, players are able to bluff and win the pot. Every player tries to win the jackpot. The pot can be won in two different ways. When all the bets are made by the players, they show down their cards. The player with the best hand wins. If during betting, a player makes a bet that no other players are willing to meet, that player wins the pot without showing his/her cards. All cards of the 52 card deck are used. The cards are dealt one at a time, clockwise motion (number of cards varies with game). Aces are high, but aces rank low in the sequence A-2-3-4-5.
