So how does the betting work? In most casinos players have to ante to get cards. After all the cards are dealt you basically have three choices. To call means to make a bet, which at least matches the previous bet. If you make the highest bet on the table, it is called raising. After you call the other amount it is basically up to you how much you want to bet. Let's take the example from above: somebody on the table raises a dollar, you have to call him with a dollar and then you can raise whatever you want. Some casinos limit the raising amount. Players can’t exceed this raising amount. You can fold. In this case you lose your bet and any chance of winning the pot. Fold only if you have a very bad hand without any chance of forming a valid hand.
