While each poker player has their own unique playing and decision making style, there are basically only four main categories of players. Belonging to this or that type players have both strong and weak points and all of them have advantages over others in some particular situations.
Each of these types has at least two basic attributes.
Whether the player is loose and play a lot of hands or tight and play very few hands.
Whether the player is aggressive or passive. An aggressive player raises and bluffs a lot. A passive player prefers to call the bets of other players.
Loose-Aggressive
In an online poker environment this is the weakest category. This player gambles according to the following principle: he raises after every flop. In a real casino such a strategy will allow to win only small pots, but in online casinos they will be only a flop. Loose-Aggressive players attract sharks. The sharks are fine with letting these players have 10 small pots; they are after the three large pots which will eventually break this player. The only way this strategy works is for the player to wander from one table to another approximately every 50 hands.
Loose-Passive
This is another weak category. These players can only make money in a game with a lot of wild players and generally have to depend on luck to have a successful poker session. Their strategy is to call the bets of other players no matter how strong their hands are. Such players can stay in the game longer than anybody else, but they will never be able to beat the house edge.
Tight-Passive
What allows players of this type to win is other players who play the game wrong. The main weak point is that it is very easy to see and notice such players. Such players never bluff. This player is more likely to call the bets of other players or to make small bets. If not, they will fold.
Tight-Aggressive
This is the best type among all others. They have the following principle of the game: see a flop with a decent hand and then take a shot at the pot after the flop with a bet.
