Poker originates from several games, but hardly anybody knows these games. Poker can be based on one of the Chinese or Persian card games. According to some books France is the birthplace of Poker. On the one hand the first country, in which card games appeared was China and the first game with 25 cards and 5 suits appeared in Persia, on the other hand, it was France, where gamblers began to play with decks with 4 suits: spades, diamonds, clubs and hearts. The true origin of the game remains shrouded in mystery. In the USA the game appeared in New Orleans and it was spread all over the country. The game of Poker became very popular nearly at once, but then it was a little different from the game we play now. During the civil war other Poker variations appeared and they were very popular. During the Civil War stud poker, the draw, and the straight Poker appeared and became very popular. New Poker variations such as Stud, Draw and Straight Pokers enjoyed wide popularity during the Wild West period of the US history. Poker is a unique game as each player plays against other players, but not against the house. There are a lot of Poker variations, which differ from each other in some features, but still the hierarchy of winning hand combinations remains the same. Nowadays Poker is one of the popular and most played card games in the world.
